Louise Stratenus

Louise Antoinette Stratenus (1852-1908) was a Dutch writer. She already translated the children's book "L'île colibri" at the age of seven, and when she submitted a five-act play to a publisher at the age of twelve, she received a letter of encouragement in return. Whithin the family she was considered a genius. In 1876 the family settled in Breda. Louise Stratenus was now 24 years old, had literary ambitions and was forced to live at home as an unmarried daughter. At the beginning of that year she made her debut under the pseudonym Louise with the collection of poems "Noordsche Bloemen". From that time on she became known as a poet and reciter with star qualities. Between 1876 and 1905 she published more than fifty novels. In addition, she translated at least ten titles and contributed to various magazines, for which she used over forty (!) pseudonyms.
